Oh dear...this is hardly a stunning piece of architecture.
Why do so many public buildings around the Highland region - especially the new ones - look as if they have been designed by someone whose entire professional career has been devoted to designing secondary schools?
Apart from the Maggie's Centre in Inverness, the new Culloden Visitor Centre, and the Universal Hall in Findhorn, where are the public buildings which display originality, flair and imagination - and for that matter, energy-efficiency?
As someone who likes simple straighforward and functional design - purely from a personal taste persepctive - but can appreciate all the time and work and MONEY!!!!!!!!!! that has and will go into creating buildings of great 'beauty'I wanted to try and get a feeling for the kinds of 'functional' buildings that have been built across the area.
Any chance of you forwarding the blog some pictures of the above mentioned buildings?
Isn't there a garden centre on the outskirts of Nairn that had energy efficiency as part of the design? There must be other buildings across Highland?
As far as schools as concerned, as long as those designing have the means to create places which provide a safe, well built and supporting environment for children's education, then I am happy. People work to a brief - it would be who determines the rules and allocates the money who would surely determine to a great extent the result.
Didn't the P and J have an item on the opening of the Archive Centre earlier on in the week?
