Who Reads the Blogs Anyway?

APTSec was just catching up with a little blog reading and wondered; just how many readers are following the local blogs?

If I get no response to this blog it could mean:

1 No one is reading the blog today

2 No one is reading the blog at all

3 People read but do not want to comment

4 People read but do not know how to comment

5 People read and have nothing further to add

We need to find out if setting up and regularly posting on the APT blog is a useful thing to have done?

Any ideas?

  1. just found out how to comment!!

how about putting the tornagrain/architecture scotland article on the blog. Can you find out how many hits it is getting as opposed to people commenting??

  2. There are always far more people reading than commenting online - absolutely true for all forms of online communities. After all, how often do APT members read local blogs AND comment? :)

It's normal, but it's always good to see local blogs developing and expanding. :)

    Thanks, both, for your comments.

We can now see how many hits the blog is getting thanks to a nifty little counter device and some advice from a more experienced blogger.

We have a few more ideas now about expanding within the blogging community.

I guess it is because we as a group are set up to both send out and receive information that we want to make sure that whatever method we use, we use it to its best advantage.

Thank you and I'll make sure I comment as much as I can.

  5. I've been reading your blog pretty regularly since it was first mentioned in the 'Gurn' and of course I now have it in my RSS reader feeds so I can be alerted whenever a new article appears.

Like Brian (at 'My Nairn') I can attest that only a very small proportion of visitors ever comment whenever I put up something in my little blog.

You have obviously decided to be very 'discreet' about who is in your group and how many it comprises; no doubt you have your reasons, but in conjunction with the title you have chosen for your group your self-description gives me no real idea of who and what you are or represent. I like the dispassionate nature of your articles, focussing on facts, but it does come across as a little 'academic' and 'bland', so is perhaps unlikely to generate the same level of feedback which the 'Gurn' achieves with its more populist approach.

It's always useful to have another voice in the local 'blogosphere' and I hope you continue yoour efforts.

There has been no conscious decision to be 'discreet'.

We've only just started the Blog and are exploring its possibilities. I haven't tried putting in photos or videos as yet but that might be a good way to introduce more about the the group and its activities.

I could start a dialogue to allow our members to say why they joined / got involved with APT.

Watch this space as they say and thanks for the constructive comment, much appreciated.
